How I became a Marketing and Membership Executive
31st October 2022A spooktacular snack for Halloween
Homemade ketchup ingredients
- 1kg tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of chilli powder or a teaspoon of tabasco sauce
- 1 tablespoon of sugar
- 2 tablespoons of vinegar
Mummy Sausage ingredients
- 6 veggie or meat sausages
- Ready-rolled puffy pastry
- 1 slightly beaten egg
- 1 tablespoon of flour
- Mustard (for the eyes!)
Let’s start making ketchup
- Chop up the tomatoes into quarters and remove any white pith (the core)
- Place the tomatoes into a large saucepan on low heat with the lid on
- Bring the tomatoes to a boil but keep the lid on!
- Stir the tomatoes then let them simmer for 20 minutes
- Turn off the heat and let the tomatoes cool down.
- Put the tomatoes into a blender until smooth
- Press the tomatoes through a sieve with a spoon
- Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and add the vinegar, chilli, sugar, and bring the mixture to a boil
- Add the tablespoon of cornflour
- Let the ketchup simmer until it thickens
- Perform a taste test (after the ketchup cools) and add extra seasoning if necessary
Mummify your sausages
- Preheat the oven (with adult supervision and permission!)
- Dust a chopping board with flour and unflatten your ready-rolled puff pastry
- Ask an adult to use a ruler and sharp knife to cut out strips of pastry that are 0.5cm wide
- Make sure to cut 1 to 2 strips per sausage
- The fun part begins – mummify the sausages by wrapping strips of pastry around each one
- Place the sausages on a baking tray and bake for 15/20 minutes
- Give your mummified sausages eyes with blobs of ketchup or mustard
