Role at Unique Magazines: I’m part of the small but mighty team behind the practical, day-to-day operations here at our warehouse and shop. We work together to efficiently manage stock and to carefully hand pick and pack every magazine ordered online. We also monitor and maintain the shop floor ensuring there’s always a warm welcome to be had when customers pop in for a browse. I really find a great deal of satisfaction in the rhythms and routines of this role – the canny company makes it all the more enjoyable too!

Favourite Magazines/Genres: A bit of a Luddite at heart, I’m a big fan of printed words and tangible text in general. I’m a very sensory creature too and really love some of the different typefaces and paper textures printers are experimenting with these days. And let’s not forget that smell! – ink on paper! It really is something else.
Growing up I absolutely adored my ‘Once Upon a Time’ story magazine subscription. It brought so much joy each time it landed on the doormat with its free cassette tape. True childhood treasure.
These days, my own little one’s favourite would have to be anything ‘Lego’ based. With their classic combination of stories, games, posters and something to build in each issue, what’s not to love?
As for lasting favourites, I’ve always been a fan of ‘National Geographic’. I have fond memories of pawing over copies of it as a child and being utterly absorbed by the incredible images and introductions to far-off lands. I still love the way you can instantly be transported to another time and place within its rich and varied pages.

Hobbies and Interests: A local lass and a “folkie” born and bred, I’ve always had a keen interest in heritage and history. Calendar customs and traditional song and dance hold a special place in my heart. I adore music, dance and the arts more widely too. They’ve offered a firm foundation for many friendships and for much of my working life too.
Outside of work I love adventures with family and friends and taking sanctuary in nature – underneath the trees or beside the seas ideally. I do love a good fire-side gathering, a wild dip and a dander in the hills when time and tide allow.
