The Mag Studio Makes
The Mag Studio Makes is our monthly series of creative workshops, bringing people together to slow down, get inspired and explore the world of magazines through collage. Held on the last Thursday of every month, each session is centred around a new theme, ensuring every workshop offers a completely different creative experience.
From exploring the world of fashion through the pages of Vogue to designing your dream home using The World of Interiors, every workshop encourages you to see magazines in a new way. With each session, your scrapbook becomes a growing collection of inspiration, creativity and personal expression.
August’s Makes
In August, we invited guests into the world of lifestyle, using the iconic ELLE and Harper’s Bazaar to create unique collages filled with the things they love and feel inspired by.
From bold red collages with fashion as the centrepiece, to soft neutral pages focused on spirituality, every creation became a reflection of the person behind it. It was a lovely way to get to know the people around us through print, seeing the different things everyone was naturally drawn to.
The Evening
For this session, we got stuck straight in, starting with a small brief and a few examples we had created at Unique. This gave everyone a little direction, while leaving plenty of room to get creative and make something completely their own.
For our returning guests, it was time to fill another set of pages, while newcomers had the chance to decorate the covers of their scrapbooks, marking their very first session with us!
As the evening unfolded, conversations flowed, new connections were made and everyone found themselves tapping into their creativity and inner child. Some guests spoke about how important it is to make time for this kind of creativity and wanted to find out more about what we do, while plenty of everyday conversations around the table began sparking new friendships.
The best part of the evening was seeing everyone create something completely different using the exact same magazines. It perfectly showcased the many places print can take us and how a single magazine can inspire completely different ideas depending on the person flicking through it.
ELLE
For this workshop, ELLE was a huge source of inspiration. This particular issue was packed with lifestyle content, from crystals and powerful words to fashion inspiration, beautiful jewellery, travel ideas and more.
It made it the perfect fit for our theme, giving everyone plenty to discover for a lifestyle inspiration collage they could look back on whenever they needed a little inspiration, or simply a reminder of the things they LOVE!
ELLE is an iconic publication filled with fashion, beauty, lifestyle, culture and inspiring voices, making it easy to flick through its pages and find something that speaks to you.
Harper’s Bazaar
Harper’s Bazaar was another big source of inspiration throughout the workshop. With its focus on fashion, beauty and culture, its pages were filled with imagery, words and little nuggets of inspiration ready to be cut out and given a new life within each collage.
As an iconic magazine with a long history in print, Harper’s Bazaar has continued to inspire generations of readers through beautiful imagery, creativity and storytelling, making it a perfect addition to the evening.
Using magazines in this way supports something we believe strongly at Unique Magazines. Print is tangible and has so much more to offer than simply being read. It can inspire creativity, spark new ideas and become something completely personal.
Looking Ahead
As The Mag Studio Makes continues to grow, we’ll keep choosing publications from our own shelves, alongside gifted magazines, to inspire each month’s theme. Every magazine has something unique to offer, and by using them in this way, we hope to help people discover new interests, build creative confidence and make meaningful connections through our growing community.
Our next Mag Studio Makes takes place on Thursday 24th September, where we’ll be doing something a little different in collaboration with a fellow creative. This time, we’ll be making our very own zines, small, self-published booklets that can be about absolutely anything you love! And of course, we’ll be using nothing less than printed magazines to create them.
