Bayard, the publishers of Discoverybox have a mission to help youngsters understand the fascinating world they live in and encourage them to face the challenges of the future with a sense of wonder and curiosity. The title itself suggests that captivating articles are to be found inside which will grab the attention of young minds, keeping them turning the pages to find out more.
From Einstein to Mozart, to horses in the wilds of Bosnia, every taste is catered for. The editors have cleverly made the magazine so that it is normal to read about music on the same page as a science subject.
There are plenty of fun activities that make learning less of a chore and more of an interesting activity. Do-it-yourself science experiments can be done at home under parental supervision, making the magazine engaging and enlightening for little ones. Scientific articles are presented using captioned pictures and very clear explanations. Children are shown sharing the findings of their investigations and experiments.
I found the photograhic content of the magazine to be of an excellent quality, with spectacular imagery in relation to the topics on animals, along with informative facts. The publishers take many of it subjects from the British curriculum, reinforcing what youngsters have already learnt, and providing facts that readers may not previously have known about.
Children can send in their drawings and jokes which are featured in the back pages of the magazine. Among the other fun activities are games, comic strips, puzzles, recipes, pet care and competitions.
